Setting the LEGO Old Fishing Store (21310) in a LEGO City is not too difficult it your brick city has some kind of water front. In this post, I explain how I modified the set and set it into my small brick city.

The “Old Fishing Store” was originally designed by Robert “RobenAnne” Bontenbal and submitted to LEGO Ideas. It received the 10,000 votes needed for review by the LEGO team. Subsequently, it was chosen to be produced by LEGO as an official set.

The “Old Fishing Store” was set at one end of the Uptown section of my LEGO city. It is built at the edge of a lake and is built in an older part of town that is not as well-maintained. A set of train tracks separates this part of town from the rest of Uptown. An elevated road bridge can be partially seen running behind the old fishing store.

The first thing I did before the build was to replace the tan 32 x 32 stud base plate with a blue one. To maximize space, I built the “Old Fishing Store” directly on the water instead of on “land”. The stilted design of the store allows for this as the store is raised above the water.

I added rock details and light grey plates to create “land” in the necessary places to join the rest of my brick city.

I added a jetty on a separate 16 x 32 stud blue base plate which is a logical extension of the build. This allows for more MiniFigs to be fishing as well as creates a space for the boat rentals.

One has to imagine that the river runs off to the side and front of my display.

To utilize all the space on the base plate that the store is built on, I plated the back corner with light grey plates and built an outdoor BBQ seafood restaurant and diner. The dining area for the restaurant is on the plate behind the store, just in front of the bridge.

For the sake of completeness, here is the original setting that I did for the “Old Fishing Store”. The intention was to create an inlet from the river between the store and my city. I built a high retaining wall that keeps the water from flowing into the town.

However, after receiving suggestions from users on Reddit, I changed the layout as described above, mainly so that one side of the “Old Fishing Store” would not be so close to the wall. Setting it away from the wall allows more details of the store to be seen easily.
